We’ve made so much progress on my in-laws kitchen and dining room, and honestly it already feels like a completely different space.
But if you’ve ever worked on a room like this, you know the last 10 percent is what really makes it feel finished.
Right now it’s functional, it’s pretty, it’s a huge improvement… but it’s not fully layered yet. And those finishing touches are what take a space from “nice” to something that actually feels warm, cozy, and complete.
So I wanted to put everything in one place
what we’ve already added
and what I’m still looking for to finish the space
These are the core pieces that completely transformed the space:
Barstools
Dining chairs
Dining table
Light fixtures
Faucet
These are all the finishing touches I shared in my carousel, along with the exact vibe I’m going for in each spot.

We definitely need curtains in here. Right now the windows feel a little bare, especially with how bold and beautiful the wallpaper is.
I’m leaning toward something light and soft like these that still lets the wallpaper be the star but adds warmth and height to the room.

I also want to add molding to the bottom half of the walls to make the room feel a little more finished and traditional.
And this corner is definitely missing something. I’m thinking an accent chair here to soften the space and make it feel more intentional.

We need a centerpiece so bad. The table feels empty right now, and this is one of those small things that makes a huge difference.
I love something like this that feels full and layered but still easy to move when needed.

I really want to add a fruit bowl here. I feel like it would make the kitchen feel more lived in and styled instead of just functional.
We’ll see if my MIL goes for it… lol.

This window is definitely missing something, and I think a printed roman shade would add so much warmth and character.
It would also tie in really nicely with the dining room wallpaper.

For this little nook, I want to bring in patterned curtains to make it feel like its own cozy moment within the space.
Something soft but with a little interest.

This area has so much potential, it just needs a few updates to really come together.
I’m thinking striped accent chairs, a new rug, and a small accent table to make it feel styled and intentional.
This is always my favorite part of a project because it’s where everything starts to feel personal.
The big pieces made the space functional
but these finishing touches are what will make it feel like home
I’ll keep updating this post as we finish everything so you can see how it all comes together.
