okay so if you work from home and you sit crisscross at your desk like a feral little gremlin, this post is for you. i spent months slowly migrating to the couch every afternoon because my back was killing me and no office chair felt right. turns out i wasn’t the problem. the chair was. here’s what actually fixed it.
standard office chairs are designed for one thing: sitting with your feet flat on the floor, back straight, arms at 90 degrees. great in theory. annoying in practice if you’re the kind of person who immediately tucks one leg up, crosses both legs, or rotates fully sideways the second no one is watching.
here’s where most chairs fail:
fixed armrests are the enemy of crisscross sitting. they stop you from pulling your legs up or shifting your position without feeling like you’re fighting the chair. you end up perching on the edge, which is worse for your back than just sitting on the floor.
a standard seat isn’t built for you to fold your legs onto it. you need width. you need room to actually get comfortable without half your knee hanging off the side.
when you’re not sitting crisscross, you need your feet to land somewhere. most chairs assume you have a footrest situation figured out. most of us do not.
before i found my chair i didn’t even know what to search for. so here’s the actual checklist:
i found this chair and genuinely did not expect it to fix my entire WFH situation. i work from home full time now and i was losing hours every day to the couch because my back hurt and i couldn’t get comfortable at my desk.
this chair has arms that fold completely down and out of the way. like flat. so i can sit fully crisscross with zero obstruction. it has a built-in footrest that pulls out when i need it. the seat is wide enough that my cats tony and vinny have claimed approximately 30% of it on any given day. which honestly i support.
my back pain is gone. i stopped migrating to the couch. i actually stay at my desk now.
i linked it and my followers sold it out almost immediately (sorry, not sorry, you have great taste). so i put together a roundup of the best similar options below.
Since you guys sold out my exact chair I made a round up of similar crisscross office chairs !
if you sit crisscross, sideways, with your legs up, or in any position that a traditional office chair was not designed for — you are not the problem. you just need a chair that was actually built for how real people sit.
this one changed my entire workday. my back is happy, tony and vinny have their spot, and the couch is officially saved for after-hours only. the way it should be.
drop a comment if you’re a fellow crisscross sitter — i need to know i’m not alone in this. and if you find one from the roundup that you love, come back and tell me. 🐾
