Here is my Halloween secret: I rented my costumes. Nine of them, all made from real Rent the Runway outfits plus a few cheap accessories.
Why rent? You do not need to buy a costume you will wear once and shove in a closet. Renting arrives fast, which is perfect when Halloween sneaks up on you. And it looks way more high end than anything off the Spirit Halloween wall.
Every outfit and accessory is linked below so you can copy any look in a few taps. Want more spooky season ideas? Start with my nostalgic Halloween post.

A big coral faux fur coat does all the work here. Add a feather mask and tights and you are a flamingo.
The most New England costume on this list. A red sequin mini dress, claws, a lobster hat, and the same tights as the flamingo.
Yes, a Christmas tree on Halloween. A dark green bubble dress plus a hat that actually lights up. It is the costume everyone will ask about.
A sheer gown covered in 3D flowers, plus wings and pointy ears. Pure woodland magic, and the gown is why it looks so expensive.
The classic, done right. An all black lace and peplum look you would wear to dinner, plus a big floppy witch hat.
For anyone who grew up on that book. A pleated satin gown in ocean colors, fish earrings, and glitter. That is the whole costume.
A zebra stripe sequin jumpsuit plus ears and a tail. Easy, comfortable, and it sparkles.
A red puff sleeve gown, a crown, and heart earrings. Off with their heads energy, but make it chic.
My favorite little trick: I made the flower crown with the extra flowers from the fairy package. One package, two costumes.
You rent the outfit, then add a few accessories to turn it into a costume. Every look in this post was made that way.
Start with one great outfit in the right color, then add one or two accessories. Red dress plus claws is a lobster. A black dress plus a hat is a witch.
Yes. The same tights work for the flamingo and the lobster, and the flowers from the fairy set made my Mother Earth crown.
